York Academy of Nevada was founded in 2017 by Andre Pierce, whose vision was shaped by his own life experiences and commitment to youth empowerment. Raised in Portland, Oregon, Andre grew up in a neighborhood that mirrors many of the communities where Clark County youth are striving to overcome barriers and build brighter futures.
His journey toward purpose began in the eighth grade when he joined a rites-of-passage program led by a Harvard alumnus—an experience that introduced him to the principles of discipline, leadership, and self-determination. That foundation was further strengthened during his time at Grambling State University, where he developed a deep commitment to community service, mentorship, and leadership as an active member of United African American Men (UAAM).
After relocating to Las Vegas to work for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Andre recognized a critical gap: many young people lacked access to structured rites-of-passage programs and consistent mentorship. Motivated to address this need, he co-founded York Academy of Nevada alongside five like-minded peers, creating a program designed to guide youth toward purpose, accountability, and success.
Building on that momentum, York Academy expanded its reach in 2023 with the founding of York Academy of Oregon in Portland—bringing its mission full circle and extending its impact to the community where Andre’s journey began.
To close the achievement gap by promoting education advancement, financial literacy, cultural awareness, respect, leadership, and the importance of brotherhood and sisterhood.
